CD PROJEKT RED is targeting a 2028 release for The Witcher 4, giving players the clearest public indication yet of when the next mainline entry in the series may arrive.
Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski shared the update ahead of gamescom 2026. The studio is still not announcing a specific launch date, so 2028 should be treated as a target year rather than a locked release date.

CD PROJEKT RED — The Witcher 4 release window
2028 is the current target
Until now, CD PROJEKT RED had only narrowed the window by confirming that The Witcher 4 would not launch by the end of 2026. The new update moves the public target further forward and places the game in 2028.
That means the release calendar is clearer, but still flexible. Large-scale RPG development can change, and CD PROJEKT RED has not provided a month or day.
Before The Witcher 4 arrives, the studio is also preparing more content for the franchise. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion Songs of the Past is scheduled for 2027 and is part of CD PROJEKT RED's current Witcher plans.
What we know about The Witcher 4
The Witcher 4 begins a new Witcher saga and puts Ciri in the lead role. CD PROJEKT RED describes it as a single-player open-world RPG and says the game is being developed internally with Unreal Engine 5.
The cinematic reveal established Ciri as a professional monster slayer, while the later Unreal Engine 5 technology presentation showed a section set in Kovir, a far-northern region making its debut in the game series.
The technology demo was not final gameplay, but it demonstrated some of the systems CD PROJEKT RED and Epic Games are developing for large open worlds. The studio has said this work is intended to support The Witcher 4 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
No exact release date yet
For now, the important distinction is simple: CD PROJEKT RED is aiming for 2028, but The Witcher 4 does not yet have a confirmed exact release date.
Game-M will keep the release calendar at year-level precision until the studio announces a narrower window.
